Yes, your event can be waste free
New resource aims to redirect landfill-bound waste from local events and gatherings
Oxford County and Tourism Oxford, in partnership with Future Oxford and Transition to Less Waste, have introduced a new resource which aims to reduce the amount of trash generated from local events and festivals. The Zero Waste Event Planning Guide offers practical tips and suggestions, along with a growing list of local resources, to support events of all sizes, from office parties and family gatherings to large-scale affairs like the Canterbury Folk Festival.
First unveiled in November, the new guide supports Oxford County’s Zero Waste Plan, which aims to reduce the amount of garbage produced in, and exported out of, Oxford County by maximizing recovery efforts and extending the lifespan of the County’s landfill site to the year 2100. Achieving zero waste is also a target of the Future Oxford Community Sustainability Plan.
By following the principles of zero waste along with the other sustainable solutions suggested in the Zero Waste Event Planning Guide, event planners – both amateur and professional – can:
- Reduce their ecological footprint
- Contribute to the conversation on waste reduction
- Support the local small business community
- Demonstrate their organization’s commitment to the environment
- Cut costs
The Zero Waste Event Planning Guide is another step toward ensuring Oxford County remains a great place to live and work for many generations to come. Download the free guide now.
